Gum Treatment

Good oral hygiene is the key to good dental health and vital in eliminating gum disease and decay which can eventually lead to tooth loss.

However, some parts of the mouth are difficult if not impossible to reach and regular dental hygiene treatment is vital to prevent cavities, gingivitis, and gum disease. It is the process of professional maintaining and cleaning patient’s teeth. It includes removing of plaque containing bacteria and tartar/calculus deposit from the teeth which has accumulated on the teeth. At Life Care Dental Clinic we will also give you advice about your daily maintenance so that you can keep your mouth in healthy condition.

Why do we need to visit dentist regularly for cleaning of teeth?

Teeth are in touch of saliva 24*7 hours a day, this helps in strengthening the teeth. However, the saliva contains calcium and the calcium over a period of time deposits on the teeth. Cleaning of the plaque is done by regular brushing. Even after brushing teeth twice a day some amount of bacteria’s remain on the teeth, over a period of time this accumulates and results in a bad breath. Dental hygiene also called as scaling and polishing is the best way to deal with any dental problem. Dental cleaning is done using ultrasonic equipment, fine hand tools and fluorides. The process is absolutely painless and cost effective. It hardly takes 15-30 minutes for cleaning. It should be done once in every 4-6 months to ensure healthy teeth

What are the causes of bad breath?

The sole reason of bad breath is extremely poor dental habits. Bad breath also points out toward other oral problems that might occur in near future. Bacterial growth inside the mouth is promoted if teeth are not regularly brushed and flossed properly. Smoking and chewing tobacco adds fuel to this fire (bad breath). Dry mouth can also result in bad breath. Bad breath can be controlled if proper hygiene is maintaining. Brush teeth regularly for 2-3 minutes. Flossing removes the bacteria which are stuck in between the teeth. Dentist advice the usage of tongue scrapers, to clean the tongue, as even this might cause a bad breath. Persistent odour from the mouth can lead to various gum diseases. If it is not treated on time it can lead to permanent damage to the tooth supporting bone. It is treated by scaling and polishing.

What are the types of Gum diseases?

Gingivitis and Periodontitis are the two commonly occurring gum diseases. The major cause of gum diseases is the formation of plaque in the mouth. Plaque is formed by the bacteria and other particles which are present in the mouth.

What is Gingivitis?

It is a mild gum disease that affects the tissues surrounding the gum. It causes the gums to bleed when the teeth are brushed. It also causes swollen and red gums. The problem of gingivitis can be solved by brushing and flossing teeth on a daily basis. The plaque can be destroyed only by this method.

What is Periodontitis?

If gingivitis is not treated on time it can escalate to become periodontitis. It can cause continuous irritation and inflammation to the tissues of the teeth. Heart and respiratory diseases are associated with it. Gum disease needs to be treated on time else it can lead to excessive bleeding and cause irreparable damage to the gums.
